My Lyme Disease Experience: An Effective Treatment Protocol
By Dr. Fabrice Leu The Initial IncidentOn June 20, 2010, while practicing martial arts in my garden, I was bitten by a tick. I never actually saw the tick itself, but I felt something similar to a mosquito bite. Subsequently, I developed erythema migrans (the characteristic bull's-eye rash) on my left calf, though I experienced no other symptoms at the time. Initially, I thought it might be a spider bite, but my wife observed that it looked more like a tick bite. Since our neighbor was a doctor, she urged me to seek medical attention immediately. To put my family at ease, I visited Dr. Paratte's practice. Although he was somewhat reluctant to see me without an appointment, he examined me professionally and decided to order blood tests immediately while prescribing amoxicillin. Initial Testing and My DecisionI chose not to take the prescribed medication. My first blood test result showed 0.13/1 (Borrelia sp. Ig [ELFA]), which was negative for Lyme disease. However, based on my previous studies, I knew that blood test results could only be considered reliable one month after the initial infection. Therefore, I decided to begin taking vitamin C orally at 6 grams daily and planned to recheck my Lyme status later. As time passed and I remained symptom-free, I unfortunately forgot to recheck my blood parameters after the recommended one-month period. It wasn't until my wife reminded me that I finally had my blood retested on August 3, 2010. This time, my markers showed 4.08/1 and were highly positive for Lyme disease. My Treatment Protocol DevelopmentDespite the positive test results, I remained asymptomatic, which I attributed to the vitamin C supplementation (6 grams daily orally plus 20 grams intravenously once weekly). I decided to research additional treatment options and developed a comprehensive protocol: Core Treatment Components:
Confirmation TestingTo confirm my diagnosis, I had additional blood work done by another colleague, Dr. Urso, on August 6, 2010. This test showed 4.54/0.75, confirming my positive Lyme disease status. Treatment Duration and ResultsSince I remained symptom-free, I continued this protocol for approximately six months. During this period, I treated between 40-50 patients with Lyme disease using my protocol. These patients presented with typical symptoms including fever, fatigue, joint pain, and nerve pain. All patients showed improvement, though most combined my treatment with conventional antibiotics. Long-term Follow-upAfter colleagues inquired about my laboratory data, I realized I hadn't retested in six years. On February 12, 2016, my blood test results showed 0.6/1 and were negative for Lyme disease. This successful outcome reinforced my confidence in the protocol. Current Protocol EnhancementBased on my continued research and experience, I have since added methylene blue 1% (8-10 drops daily) to my treatment protocol. I continue to share this successful approach with patients presenting with Lyme disease. ConclusionMy experience demonstrates that alternative approaches to Lyme disease treatment can be effective, particularly when implemented early and with careful monitoring. While my case remained asymptomatic, the protocol has shown positive results in symptomatic patients as well, often in conjunction with conventional antibiotic therapy.
