Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine Receives Annual Pearl Maker Award from the Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning Hugh Riordan, MD, President and Director of the Center, presents Pearl Maker award to Steven Carter, Managing Editor, JOM This year’s Annual Pearl Maker Award was given to the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine at a special Media and Volunteer Appreciation luncheon held at the Center for the Improvement for Human Functioning in Wichita, Kansas, April 19, 2000. The Center, which publishes the regular “Case” in the Journal, is a complex medical, research and educational organization providing individualized health evaluation and “alternative” treatment and diagnostic laboratory services, housed in a fascinating array of eight geodesic domes and a 40 - foot pyramid. For information contact the Center at 3100 North Hillside Avenue, Wichita, Kansas 67219; (316) 682-3100 or http:// www.brightspot.org. Following is the text accompanying the beautiful award consisting of a Swarovski crystal pearl-containing oyster: “The Pearl Maker Award is given to those superb human beings who have shown outstanding support of The Center's mission to serve in ways to stimulate an epidemic of health worldwide. The pearl was chosen as The Center's symbol because in the beginning many of our medical colleagues looked upon us as an irritant, just as the grain of sand is an irritant to the oyster. Now that our approaches are being proven again and again to be so right, we are achieving pearl status in many areas. Thank you for helping us to multiply our grains of sand so that we could become so much more than even we imagined in 1975. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we look back with satisfaction on our accomplishments and forward to being even more productive as we touch the lives of countless people in a positive way. The Pearl Maker Award has been made possible by a contributor who asked that funds be used for this purpose - to recognize those who have made a significant difference in enhancing the work of The Center.” |
